Not our baby...

On Tuesday we took Mason to Children's hospital for a heart cath. to repair a small part of his heart that should have closed just after birth (it is called a PDA). He also has a VSD, fancy name for a heart murmer. His body because of these two problems was making too much blood for his heart and one of his chambers was becoming enlarged. With the heart cath repairing one of the problems the doctor felt that his body could recover and be fine with just the heart murmer. When they got into his heart on Tuesday afternoon they learned that the PDA was extremely small and the VSD was much larger than they thought so the doctor did not repair the PDA and finished the cath with no repair to anything. When he was telling us after the surgery that he didn't repair anything Ben and I both knew that meant that he wanted to do open heart surgery. We were crushed. It was and is very hard to think about them opening up our baby and doing this surgery but we know it is the best. We will hopefully do the next surgery in the next 6-8 weeks. We will schedule it tomorrow (thursday).

On the way to Omaha on Tuesday we heard the verse of the day on our local christian radio station and it happened to be Jer. 29:11. "For I know the plans I have ...." We talked about how that verse really was perfect for our day. On the way home I was really struck by the "I" in the verse. We had no idea what our day was going to hold but "He" did. That is what we will cling to. We have tons to be thankful for and Mason is a trooper.. he had the nurses wrapped around his finger yesterday. Count on Jesus today!!
